New Charlotte Church began with the purpose of bringing the new life of Jesus to the city, and it happened through what we like to call “Only God” moments. Chris and Jen Payne began meeting with a group of believers in their living room in March of 2010, leading them in prayer, study, and worship. By summer, they had outgrown the living room, relocating to a nearby neighborhood clubhouse. In September of that year, New Charlotte Church held its first service in rented warehouse space at 11011 Monroe Road.

The name we chose had specific meaning:

New Charlotte wanted people to know they are new creations in Christ and could experience a life-transforming relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

New Charlotte wanted God to use us uniquely. With a vision to impact our city, we believed simply being a “good church” was not sufficient. We actively sought to embrace others who were doing the work of God and find opportunities to partner with them.
“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you…pray to the Lord on its behalf.” Jeremiah 29:7

In 2017, in yet another “Only God” moment, we were able to purchase and renovate our church building on Monroe Road, and also an adjacent office building. In the future, we are trusting God for a wider range of impact in our city and more “Only God” moments.
